20-04-2010 - Interior Educators (IE) is a new organisation established by academics representing well-established Interior design / interior architecture courses from across the UK. It is a unique group in that it provides a forum for debate and the exchange of ideas and practice effecting the education of designers of interior space. It is currently the only relevant and influential mouthpiece for interiors education and educators in the UK. At the present time it meets formally twice each year.
Its overarching objectives are:
- To promote the interests of Interiors education
- To provide a coherent, collective and representative body through which to articulate current and future common issues and ambitions
- To actively liaise with any other organisations that concern themselves with interiors education or have interests in associated areas of work.
- To influence and inform current thinking and research via the collection and dissemination of information concerning interiors education.
Education
IE will represent the interests of Interiors education through:
• the promotion and recognition of excellence and intellectual rigour within the broad range of UK wide Interior Architecture and Design education and research.
• the advocacy for all affiliated undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in Interior Architecture and Design subjects and support the diversity and range of that provision.
• recognition as the national authority on UK Interior Architecture and Design education and research issues.
IE will provide a mechanism for the recognition of excellence through publication, citation and research outputs, and for the collective promotion of affiliated programmes.
• contributing representative views too wider environmental / educational debates and forum including CHEAD, CUMULUS, AHRC funding, and research studentships.
• Coordinating and sharing good practice, external examiners and other subject specialists.
Promotion
IE will provide a coherent, collective and representative body through which to articulate and common issues and ambitions through:
• having a creative presence at European and International interior focused forum and conferences.
.
• bi-annual meetings –for sharing best practice, responding to common interests and preoccupations and likely trends within the discipline and Higher Education.
• having an organizational presence at national HE recruitment events.
• engagement with public Interiors events e.g.100% Design / Ideal Home to provide insight and intelligent critiques.
• promoting leading edge research, teaching and learning and practice methods particular to this discipline through established and new routes
IE will actively liaise with any other organisations that concern themselves with interiors education or have interests in associated areas of work through:
• design and architectural profession, associated professional, educational and representative bodies and organisations to facilitate reciprocal support and communication between Interiors education and practice.
• representing and promoting Interior Architecture and Interior Design to education, business, non-governmental organisations, local and national government and policy makers.
